The Oxford English Dictionary has finally agreed to what designers have known for a long time:

The “heart” symbol ♥ will now officially be included in the dictionary as a verb meaning “to love”. Of course the iconic NY tourism campaign spawned by Milton Glaser’s “I ♥ NY” is the most famous example of the symbol in action.

At this time, the Oxford English Dictionary has made no mention of iheartlogos. Maybe next edition…

The Dictionary is for words – not graphics.

This has potential to spiral out of control!

  2. What is wrong with the concept of a visual dictionary..? I quite like the idea. <3

  3. Justine says:

I wonder what letter you’d find this under? H for heart? Maybe “icons” will follow Z…

  4. Daniel Evans says:

@Pixel Freak Quite simply because the dictionary is based upon diction which is by definition: “Style of speaking or writing as dependent upon choice of WORDS”. – Dictionary.com. Oh the irony…
